Tech-Sperts

In 2002, as a reward for academic and behavioral achievement, Hillsboro Intermediate School gave incoming 6th graders a new opportunity. Interested students could get a teacher recommendation and try-out to become a Tech-Spert. The newly formed group began by reading the announcements every morning, but then it evolved into doing LIVE broadcasts. Each morning the Tech-Sperts arrive at 7:30 to have their roundtable discussions to decide on what stories, news and information will be shared for the week. The students present the daily news Monday-Thursday to inform students and staff of upcoming events and to excite them about the day. On Friday, the Tech-Sperts produce the video announcements that are shared with all teachers throughout the building. The students listen to fellow Tech-Sperts, write the week’s stories and learn how to be a part of a cohesive and collaborative group. This year’s members call themselves the "Five in a Pod + A Secret 1!"   Director of the group is Carol Mabry.
